Mixture to Get Rid of Skunk Smell

There is no mistaking the smell of a skunk. If you need to get rid of a skunk odor, you can create a mixture to eliminate it with household cleaning items.

For Living Creatures

If your pet or a member of your family has been sprayed by a skunk, create a mixture of one quart 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda and a couple teaspoons of liquid dishwashing soap. Apply the bubbling mixture while wearing rubber gloves and leave it on for at least five minutes. You may need to apply the mixture several times to remove the skunk smell.

For Home

If you need to get rid of skunk odor in your home, a mixture of one part white vinegar to four parts water can help, according to the University of Arkansas. Place the solution in a spray bottle and wash down the items in your home that smell.

Considerations

The mixture to eliminate skunk smell on people and pets cannot be stored; it could explode inside a container. It must be used and discarded at once. If you need more, you will have to create a fresh batch. Before spraying any fabric or clothing with any cleaning mixture, you should test it for color fastness in an inconspicuous area.
