Deep Hair Treatment

Use ingredients found at home to deep condition dry or damaged hair.

A deep hair treatment is a term for deep conditioning hair that has been damaged from overstyling, dying or even the weather. The aim of deep conditioning is to repair dry, brittle and frizzy hair.

Getting Started

Check with your salon if you have color-treated hair to make sure none of the conditioning treatments will strip the color from your hair. Trim any split ends before you start.

Olive Oil and Shea Butter

One good home conditioner is warming a mixture of equal parts olive oil and shea butter in a microwave. Be careful not to overheat the oil or it may damage your hair; just get the mixture comfortably warm to the touch. Work the mixture through damp hair, focusing on coating the ends. Place a shower cap over your hair and gently blow-dry on the "cool" dryer setting for 20 minutes. Shampoo after treatment.

Egg Shampoo

To treat dry hair, make an egg shampoo with 1 oz. of fresh rosemary, a pint of hot water and an egg. Place the rosemary in the water and steep as you would a tea for about 20 minutes. Cool the water to room temperature then beat in the cracked egg. Massage into dry hair then rinse clean.

Avocado and Mayonnaise

Mix together one small jar of mayonnaise (do not use fat-free or lower-fat versions) with one avocado. Rub into hair until it is coated. Wrap your head with a towel and leave the conditioner on for about 20 to 25 minutes. Rinse out and style as usual.
