CNAs perform many duties within a long-term care facility. Nursing assistants help patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and daily exercise. Many assistants also take vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature and pulse.

All CNAs in Minnesota must be registered under the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry. The registry keeps track of qualified certified nursing assistants, monitors abuse and neglect committed by nursing assistants and approves nursing training.

A prospective certified nursing assistant must complete a state-approved training program, pass the CNA competency exam, or be approved as a CNA in another state, before being eligible to work as a CNA in Minnesota.
