Homemade Motorcycle Lifts

Motorcycle lifts make routine maintenance and extensive repairs simpler for owners.

Homemade motorcycle lifts save owners time, money, muscle cramps and back pain. By elevating the motorcycle 12 to 24 inches off the ground, maintenance can be done from a natural standing position.

  1. Lift Table

    • Most motorcycle lifts are table lifts. Table lifts provide better access and stability without the risks associated with hydraulic floor jacks.

    Materials

    • Homemade motorcycle lifts use 1 to 1 1/8 inch plywood. Two to four eye screws are added to tie down the motorcycle for extra stability.

    Ramps

    • Ramps are used to get the motorcycle on the lift table. It is simpler and less expensive than rigging a floor jack to the lift table. Some owners build the table so part of it lowers to become the ramp.

    Alternative Lift

    • Owners who do not want a table lift can attach some carpet to a four inch by eight inch wooden block for a lift. It will not raise the bike off the ground like a table lift, but will get one wheel off the ground for light maintenance.
