Imaging Software for Scanners
A scanner is a useful computer peripheral, and the right software can make it more useful. The scanner may come with a simple scanning program, but you may want to quickly scan an image and make some ajustments, and there are several titles that can help you with that.
-
TWAIN and Image Editing Software
-
TWAIN is a standard that allows popular image-editing software such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and GIMP to interface directly with a scanner. Install a scanner that's compatible with TWAIN, boot up your favorite image-editing program, and select "Acquire" from the edit menu to import an image directly from the scanner.
Photocopy Simulation
-
Use your computer, printer and scanner to perform the function of a photocopier. Software such as Copying Machine and iCopy (see Resources) act as a bridge between the scanner and the printer to print scanned images like a photocopier.

Utilities
-
Software utilities can assist in many problems you might have when scanning. A program such as DustKleen can fix scanned images that are dirty or dusty. Other software may fix a photo's color or contrast.
