Florida security guards need a Class D security license to work.

Florida requires anyone providing unarmed private security services in the state to train for and earn a Class D security license. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services issues this license.

  1. Training

    • To obtain a Class D security license, applicants complete 40 hours of training at a training facility approved by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. There are exceptions to this training for law enforcement officers.

    Personal Requirements

    • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be approved to work in the United States to qualify for a Class D license. A current physical address, as well as residence and employment history for the previous 5 years, is required.

    Criminal Record

    • Applicants are disqualified from receiving a Class D security license if they were found guilty of a felony in any state in the United States. Other criminal activity may also cause an application to be denied.
