What Type of Fertilizer Is Best for Knock Out Roses?

Synthetic fertilizers feed the plant while organic fertilizers feed the soil, according to rosarians with Rose Magazine. Whichever you choose, your Knock Out rose will get nutrients. Although the Knockout's breeders claim that the rose doesn't require any fertilizer at all, an annual feeding will not harm the plant. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Type of Fertilizer

    • Knock Out roses should be fertilized with a food formulated for roses. You can find these in large gardening centers and nurseries.

    Timing

    • Allow your Knock Out rose to complete one growing season before fertilizing. Then, apply the fertilizer in the following spring, as soon as you see buds on the plant.

    Method

    • Make sure the soil is moist and sprinkle the fertilizer, at the rate suggested on the package, to the soil beneath the Knock Out rose bush. Lightly scratch it into the top inch of soil and then water again, as you normally do.
