Computer-Based First Aid Training
People who want to learn first aid or CPR and are unable to take a traditional class with the American Red Cross can take computer-based first aid training.

Computer-Based First Aid Training
-
Computer-based first aid training is a way to learn the necessary information without attending a class. Information is presented page-by-page on a website and the student reads and clicks through each page. There is generally a short quiz at the end and an opportunity to order a certificate of completion or wallet card.
What Material is Covered?
-
In a computer-based first aid course you will learn basic lifesaving skills. Topics covered include how to stock a first aid kit, what to do if someone is choking, how to treat a nosebleed, and what to do in the event of a head injury, burn, or bite wound. A computer-based first aid course will teach you to determine which types of emergency situations you can handle and when it is time to call 911 or other emergency services.
-
Advantages
-
Computer-based first aid training is self-paced, and a student can work through the material at any time and from any Internet-capable computer. These courses can also be used for reference or review of important information.
Disadvantages and Cautions
-
Although computer-based first aid courses can be helpful for review, the best way to learn first aid is to take a class in person. An online class does not provide the opportunity to demonstrate and practice the necessary skills. Additionally, a certificate from an online course may not be accepted as proof of course completion by many employers.
