What Is the Difference Between Laser & Regular Paper?

Many types of paper exist for many varying purposes. Some paper is suited for very specific inks or printing methods, while other paper is created for specific thicknesses and sizes. Laser printer paper and "regular" copy paper have very distinct differences.

Copy Paper

Standard copy paper has gained popularity in the standard office setting, being used as all-purpose paper in office equipment. It typically follows a standard of 20 lb. weight, 80-85 brightness, and 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches in size.

Laser Paper

Laser paper provides optimal results when used in conjunction with a laser printer or copier. The weight, brightness and other paper qualities work best when combined with laser toner. Laser paper typically has a higher weight and brightness compared to copier paper, and an increased opacity to prevent see-through printing.

Decision

Paper types chosen should reflect the type of printing and method of printing. Laser paper works best in conjunction with laser printing or copying. When choosing a paper type, consider the ramifications the paper will also have on equipment. Certain paper types are more likely to jam, such as high-cotton count bond papers in standard copiers and laser printers.
