The Microsoft SQL Business Intelligence Certification is available for Microsoft SQL Servers 2005 and 2008. When a product's mainstream support life cycle ends, certifications and the exams for that product are retired.
MCTS

Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) is the first leg in the certification path. Candidates must pass the "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development and Maintenance" exam. For SQL Server 2008, the exam number is 70-448; for SQL Server 2005, the exam number is 70-445. The official title for this certification is MCTS: SQL Server 2008 (or 2005), Business Intelligence Development and Maintenance.

MCITP

Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) is the advanced certification. To obtain this certification candidates must hold the MCTS in Business Intelligence Development and Maintenance and pass the "Designing a Business Intelligence Infrastructure with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (or 2005)". The exam number for SQL Server 2008 is 70-452; SQL Server 2005 exam number is 70-446. The official title for certification holders is MCITP: SQL Server 2008 (or 2005), Business Intelligence Development and Maintenance.

Professionals who hold the MCITP for SQL Server 2005 can upgrade their certification to SQL Server 2008 by passing exam 70-455, "Transition Your MCITP SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence Developer to SQL Server Business Intelligence Developer."
