Salaries ranged from $16,060 or less for the bottom 10 percent of earners to more than $39,240 for the highest-paid 10 percent.

There were 11,670 tour guides and escorts employed in such places out of 31,360 for all industries combined. In the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet area, there were 1,080 people working as tour guides and escorts in May, 2009, according to the BLS.
