Shopping for an RV? Comparing them has become a lot easier and more thorough thanks to the Internet, with its websites loaded with comparison calculators, buyers guides and actual listings. There are other ways to compare RV trailers, though, and you shouldn't neglect them if you want to be thorough.

  1. Go Local

    • If you're looking locally for a travel trailer, check your local newspapers for ads for RVs and trailers. A special deal might be hiding there. Some people are not comfortable advertising online and will list solely in a newspaper. Free-stand buyers guides and the local Yellow Pages are also good sources for finding local travel trailer offerings.

    Go to the Source

    • If you've interested in a certain make and model but want to see one firsthand, contact the manufacturer. RV manufacturers maintain websites that likely have zip code locators to help you identify the dealer nearest you.

    Go to the Show

    • If you're really taking your time with your decision, there is no better place to compare new models than an RV show.

    Caveat Emptor

    • Bankruptcies, estate sales and auctions are other places to look, but be warned. These could be damaged inventories. Buyer beware.
