Internet Speed Required for Streaming Audio
Since the inception of the Internet, music and audio are viewed in an entirely different light. As of 2010, streaming audio is used around the world for music, news podcasts and for listening to live sports games.

Types
-
Two common types of Internet connections meet the minimum Internet speed required for streaming audio: dial-up and DSL, which stands for Digital Subscriber Line.
Minimum Speed
-
Access to dial-up Internet service is the minimum requirement for streaming audio. While dial-up is geared to connect at 56 kilobytes per second, audio can be streamed if the connection speed is at least 30 kilobytes per second.

Warning
-
For the best streaming audio experience on the Internet, a speed of 256 kilobytes per second is highly recommended. Be aware that audio streams can stall and become choppy at the minimum speed requirement. Dial-up Internet connections tend to drop frequently, while DSL maintains the high-speed connection. Also, if using 56K, refrain from opening other pages or programs as this severely limits the capability of the Internet connection.
