How to Buy Cheap Theater Tickets for the National Theater in Washington, DC
The National Theater first opened its doors in 1835 and has earned the nickname "Theatre of Presidents." Given its illustrious history, tickets are not always easy to obtain or affordable. There are, however, several ways to buy discounted tickets for shows at the National Theater.
-
Half-Price Ticket Program
-
The National Theater offers a certain amount of special patron tickets for most of its shows. These tickets are half of the price of normal tickets. These tickets are only for certain performances and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must call (202) 628-6161 during the week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to inquire about tickets.
Eligibility for Special Patron Tickets
-
You must fall within a certain category to be eligible to purchase special patron tickets. Those eligible categories are individuals who are age 65 and older, full-time students, military personnel rank E4 and below, low-income D.C. citizens who hold a District of Columbia Human Services Card and people with certain disabilities.

Other Options
-
If you are unable to obtain tickets through the Special Patron Ticket program, you may be able to buy discounted National Theater tickets from TicketPlace on the day of the show at the TicketPlace box office located at the Old Post Office Pavillion (12th and Pennsylvania Ave., NW). Additionally, TicketPlace may offer deeply discounted tickets for certain shows once they have sold out. For information about TicketPlace's discounted tickets, call (202) 842-5387.
