The Bridal Wreath Shrub, or Spiraea prunifolia, is a fast growing shrub that many gardeners prize because of its graceful shape and abundance of flowers. To keep the Bridal Wreath from overgrowing its space, it needs pruning annually. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Spring Pruning

    • The Bridal Wreath shrub blooms in the early spring and needs pruning to shape in the late spring after it has finished blooming.

    Shaping

    • To thin the Bridal Wreath, cut some of the older canes back completely to the ground in the late spring after the shrub has flowered.

    Damage and Disease

    • Always cut back damaged and diseased canes of the Spirea as soon as the problem is found, no matter what time of year it is.
