What Is the Browser FTP Program?

Browser FTP programs are useful tools for website designers.

A File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program is a program website designers use to upload their files from their computer to a server on the Internet. They can either download an FTP program and launch it from their desktop or they can use a browser FTP program.

Identification

A browser FTP program works with an Internet browser such Internet Explorer or Firefox. When website designers are ready to upload a program, they can launch their Internet browser and execute specific commands without having to launch any additional applications. In essence, instead of using the Internet browser to surf the web, they use it to upload files.

Function

To use a browser as an FTP program, website designers simply type in their FTP address in the browser bar instead of an Internet address. An FTP address is similar to ftp://myftpsite.com. Once the ftp site comes up, they follow the instructions specific to browser they are using.

Benefits

Browser FTP programs are extremely useful when someone needs to upload a file from a flash drive and he is not at his computer. All he needs is any computer with an Internet connection and a web browser.
