Most sections of the GED test are multiple choice.

A GED, or graduate education development, certificate is the equivalent of a high school diploma. The GED test is administered only at specific locations and may not be taken online.

  1. Scoring

    • There are five sections to the GED: writing skills, literature and arts, mathematics, social studies and science. Although each section of the test is scored independently to compile a total score, test-takers must get a minimum score in each section in order to pass the test. Each GED test has a maximum of 800 points.

    Minimum Requirements

    • GED test-takers must get a minimum score of 410 on each section, with an average of 450 on all of the tests, according to an article from the Essential Education Corp.

    Interpretation

    • Test scores can translate into a grade point average. Scores of 401 to 500 are equivalent to a 2.0 to 2.9 GPA, between 501 and 600 equal a 3.0 to 3.4 GPA and 601 to 700 mean a 3.5 to 3.7 GPA. Scores of 701 to 800 are equivalent to a 3.8 to 4.0 GPA.
