  1. Engine

    • The 2003 Honda 400EX engine featured a high-performance 397cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine. It was an air-cooled, dry-sump powerplant with a bore and stroke of 85mm by 70mm. The 2004 Sportrax 400EX has a 35.5mm carburetor with piston valves and an accelerator pump for the smoothest acceleration possible. The 400EX used an electric starter and a solid-state electronic CD ignition.

    • The 2003 Honda 400EX came equipped with five-speed transmission. Front suspension included double-wishbone with Showa shocks, and five-position spring-preload adjustability. Rear suspension included Pro-link fully adjustable single Showa shocks.
