Basic Hospital Security Officer Training
Upon being hired, hospital security officers are usually required by their employer to complete basic hospital security officer training. Security supervisors can use training material from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety to educate their officers.

Significance
-
The basic hospital security officer training course through IAHSS includes instruction in terrorism, risk reduction and patrolling patient care units. Some contract security companies model their hospital security officer training on the IAHSS's structure. Securatex, for example, trains its officers in preventing infant abductions and the security officer's role in the hospital safety program.
Benefits
-
Hospital security is considered a specialized area of the industry. It pays somewhat more than standard security positions. In September 2010, officers who work in the healthcare industry, on average, earned between $9 and $13 an hour, according to the website PayScale. Officers who pass the basic hospital security officer training are issued a certificate and are considered certified hospital security officers.

Warning
-
Hospital security officer training through IAHSS doesn't guarantee state licensure or vice versa. Security officers must apply and meet the licensing requirements of the state private security bureau. These criteria can include having and maintaining a clean criminal background, completing state-mandated training and paying the appropriate licensing fee.
