Tourism of North East Pennsylvania

In the summer of 2009, northeastern Pennsylvania was unofficially named Upstate Pennsylvania by five regional tourism agencies. Upstate Pennsylvania includes Bradford, Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties.

  1. Peak Season

    • Due to the numerous activities available in northeastern Pennsylvania. tourists are always flocking to the area. In the summer, many come to bike and hike in the Endless and Pocono Mountains. Fishing, canoeing and camping are also popular throughout the region during the warmer months. In the winter, the area is bustling with skiers.

    Lodging

    • Lodging is in abundance in this region; options range from a well-known hotel to a rustic cabin to charming bed and breakfast. More than 36 lodging options are available to accommodate almost any need.

    Famous Spot

    • One of the most popular tourist spots in northeastern Pennsylvania is the Yuengling Brewery tour in Pottsville, the site of the original brewery started in 1829.

    Other Attractions

    • Northeastern Pennsylvania was once a region known for their steel mills; now these mills, located primarily in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, have been converted to office parks and museums. These former steel mills are popular tourist attractions due to their rich history and contribution to the region's economy.
