Hipped Dormer

The roof of a hipped dormer has three sides. Hipped dormers have a three-planed roof with the planes meeting at the top. Craftsman style homes commonly have hipped dormers.
Gabled Dormer

Gabled dormers feature two-sided roofs. Another style of dormer, gabled dormers are formed by two-sided roof pieces that meet at the top. During the Tudor period in England, the gabled dormers were quite common.
