Smart Car Performance
Development of the Smart Car began in 1993 and by 2006 the vehicle was introduced in America. While a Smart Car might make parking easier due to its smaller size, it does not offer the same level of power as most cars on the market.

The Engine

The 2011 Smart Car will have similar engine power as 2010 models. The 2011 version will feature a standard micro-hybrid engine with 71 horsepower. The Smart Car Xclusive will offer an engine capable of creating 102 horsepower.
Speed

The 2011 Xclusive can travel from 0-60 in under 8.9 seconds. The 2011 Smart Car Xclusive is capable of going 0-60 mles per hour in under 8.9 seconds. This is a major increase over the 2008 Smart Fortwo which went 0-60mph in 14.1 seconds. The 2008 model also featured an 8.7 gallon fuel tank and the ability to travel 33 miles per gallon in the city and 41 mpg on the highway.

Going Electric

In 2011, the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive will be introduced which will feature a maximum of 41 horsepower when fully accelerated and a top speed of 65 mph. The Electric Drive will be able to travel 82 miles before needing to be re-charged.
