The Towing Capacity of a Saturn SUV

The now-defunct Saturn produced two sport utility vehicles: the full-size Outlook and the compact Vue. Both SUVs are crossovers, which use a General Motors car platform to provide car handling while maintaining its truck-like power for towing. Saturn ceased production in 2010.

  1. Outlook Engine Size

    • The 2009 Outlook XE featured a 3.6-liter V6 engine, generating 281 horsepower and 266 ft.-lb. of torque. The Outlook XR is equipped with dual exhausts to pump up the horsepower to 288 and 270 ft.-lb. of torque. Torque provides SUVs with off-the-line acceleration and towing capacity.

    Outlook Towing

    • A six-speed automatic transmission with four- or front-wheel-drive and the 288-horsepower V6 engine gave the Outlook a 4,500-lb. towing capacity.

    Vue Engine Size

    • GM equipped its Saturn Vue XE with a standard 169-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder powerplant with 160 ft.-lb. of torque. An optional 215 horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 with 220 ft.-lb. of torque or a 257-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 with 248 ft.-lb. of torque were also available.

    Vue Towing

    • The maximum towing capacity for the Saturn Vue equipped with either V6 engine option is 3,500 lb. The four-cylinder version can haul 1,500 lb.
