An electric garage door opener contains an electric motor that powers the unit to raise and lower the garage door upon command. The motor is attached to the garage ceiling. A chain or belt extends from the motor and attaches to the garage door. A wall-mount or wireless transmitter sends a signal to the electric motor causing it to raise and lower the garage door.
