Use a DVD Ripper to download audio from a DVD.

To download music from a DVD all you need is a DVD Ripper software program. Use the program to extract the desired files from the disc and transfer them to your computer.

  1. DVD Ripper

    • DVD rippers can copy any DVD data to your hard disk drive. As of September 2010, several legal DVD rippers are available online that cost about $35.

    Downloading Audio from DVDs

    • Use the ripper to select and transfer the audio files from the DVD. You do not need the video files, so don't highlight them. The rippers have simple instructions and transferring any DVD data is easy.

    File Selection

    • After you transfer the files to your hard drive, listen to them so you know which files are music and which are dialogue. Rename the music files and delete the dialogue if you want.

    File Format Configuration

    • You may need to change the files' format to MP3, MP4 or WAV to listen to the music on CDs or a portable music player.
