Organizational Structure of a Committee

Organizational structures outline the specific roles and responsibilities of individual positions in a company. Large organizations or publicly held companies can have a wide ranging organizational structure, which can include committees.

Identification

Committees in an organization will often focus on a specific function or aspect of operations. Each committee is often under the direction of an executive committee or the board of directors. Committees can have multiple positions depending on their purpose and scope of operations.

Features

Organizations may vote for or simply select members of committees. These positions can include a chairman or other senior individual to direct the actions of the committee. Other positions may include a vice-chair and secretary.

Purpose

Using a committee can help companies generate a somewhat independent opinion about a business function or activity. The individuals in each committee will often represent a number of different departments within the company, which allows for a better analysis of internal operations.
