Advanced Microsoft Office Training

Individuals wishing to gain advanced skills in Microsoft Office have a number of training options, diverse in methods of delivery, style, cost and certification. Advanced Microsoft Office training may include training in one, several or all programs in the full suite.

  1. Programs

    • The programs of Microsoft Office 2010, not all of which are included in each edition, are Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote, SharePoint Workspace (formerly Groove), InfoPath, Communicator, Project and Visio.

    Types

    • Advanced training typically leads to testing for an official Microsoft certification or a certificate of completion for an official Microsoft or third-party online or classroom course. Classes may or may not be approved by Microsoft. Individuals may also choose to pursue advanced training using self-paced materials, including books or software.

    Levels

    • As of September 2010, Microsoft offers both Basic and Expert Office Specialist certifications in Word and Excel, but just one level of certification for PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. Both levels of certification indicate proficiency and a degree of advanced skill in the program. Students may also choose the upper levels of classroom or online courses, which are normally dedicated to just one Office application.
