Dutch food is often simple, hearty and filling.

Dutch cuisine is comprised of traditional meals and sweets served in the Netherlands and some areas of Belgium. The area is rich in agriculture and is known for its cheeses, hearty meats and tillage-based crops of potatoes, cabbages and similar foods. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Stamppot

    • Potatoes are a standard ingredient in many traditional Dutch dishes. The Stamppot is a relatively simple dish of mashed potatoes, kale and carrots. It is most commonly served with cooked sausage or a similar type of meat.

    Pea Soup

    • Pea soup, or "Erwtensoep," is another traditional Dutch dish. It is commonly made with plenty of fresh vegetables as well as pig's knuckle, ham or bacon. It is often served with a side of bread.

    Pancakes

    • The English word for "pancakes" came from the Dutch word "pannekoeken." Pancakes are eaten as a snack or as a dessert. They are often filled syrup, cheese or fruit. Waffles and small balls of fried dough are also common snacks in Dutch cuisine.
