Before you install your new fence, locate your property line and any utilities. Most fence installers recommend setting the fence at least 4 inches inside the property line to avoid encroachment. Also, check the neighborhood and city codes to determine if a chain-link fence is allowed and whether the installation must be professional or if DIY is acceptable.
Measure Twice, Dig Once

To calculate the total length of cyclone fencing needed, use the handy calculator on the Hoover Fence Co. website (see References). Install terminal posts first. Terminal posts are set anywhere the fence turns a corner or ends at a gate. Once those posts are set, use the measurement chart on the Chain Link Manufacturers Institute link in References to determine your line post settings.

Stretch and Tie

Once all posts are set in concrete and hardened in place, attach the tension band to one terminal post and stretch to the next. Use the fence ties to secure the fence to the line posts. Remove excess fencing by undoing the top and bottom knuckles of one strand of fence fabric and unwinding it.
