Turbo Trainer Information
A trainer device is a type of exercise equipment that allows a bicycle to be ridden without moving forward. A turbo trainer device holds the bicycle frame motionless, essentially converting an exercise bicycle into a stationary bicycle.
-
Definition
-
Turbo trainers are equipment that mounts a bicycle on a framework. Unlike other trainer devices, such as rollers, turbo trainers enable the bicycle to be used while motionless, but still allows the attached bike to sway similarly to as if it were being ridden on a road.
Resistance
-
Turbo trainers use different mechanisms to provide resistance to pedaling. Adjustable frictional resistance, typically in the form of a band, presses against a rotating cylinder by the bicycle's back wheel to create resistance. A magnetic resistance system also can be used by turbo trainers, which operates via a current that is transmitted through magnetic coils in the trainer device.
-
Applications
-
Turbo trainers are utilized as a training aid device for competitive bicyclists. Turbo trainers also can be used to incorporate bicycling into a non-competitive individual's exercise routine. Turbo trainers offer added flexibility to bicycle use, as a road bicycle can be mounted in a turbo trainer for indoor training.
