Types

Aside from kelp meal, blue-green algae is another ocean-sourced horse supplement. The nutrients found in both of these products are found in grass that horses eat. Drying the grass into hay removes these nutrients.
Geography
-
Winter months can prevent horses from grazing outside because of the extreme cold or snow cover. Add organic kelp meal to a horse's diet to provide it with the same nutrients the horse would receive through grazing all year.
-
Benefits
-
Organic kelp meal contains vitamins and minerals such as calcium, sodium, copper, iron, iodine, vitamin B1, vitamin B12, cobalt, selenium, vitamin D, vitamin E and vitamin K. It also contains amino acids and plant growth hormones.
Warning
-
Organic kelp meal contains iodine, which is beneficial for horses in small amounts. However, large amounts can be harmful to horses. Follow the directions on the package for best results. Additionally, ensure other supplements or treats don't contain iodine if feeding the horse kelp meal.
