Define "Progressive Mobilization"

Define "Progressive Mobilization" thumbnail
Progressive mobilization indicates a restorative process.

Far from being specific to one arena, progressive mobilization can be defined in terms of health care, politics and even geology. At its essence, such mobilization indicates a restorative or building process.

  1. Politics

    • In a September 2008 issue of "The Nation," progressive mobilization was described as a political reform process that could overcome the "entrenched interests" set in American politics.

    Health Care

    • Progressive mobilization may also refer to a medical patient's increased mobility, such as in recuperating from an injury or in coping with advancing age. This mobilization provides much benefit to elderly people striving for improved quality of life. The book " Assisting in Long Term Care" lists various steps in the mobilization process, including changing positions in bed, standing up and either walking or successfully using a wheelchair. The accepted method involves starting with the simplest movement and advancing from there. Such a process is typical of restorative programs.

    Geology

    • In a much different light, progressive mobilization may actually refer to a form of regression, such as in geological references to the loosening of soil.
