All male recruits are required to show that they have the ability to do at least two pull-ups. The recruits must then do at least 35 sit-ups in a two-minute time frame. Finally, males must complete a run consisting of one and a half miles in no more than 13 and a half minutes.
Female IST Standards

Similar to the male IST test, females must also meet specific requirements before being admitted into Marine service. Females must complete a flexed arm hang lasting for a minimum of 12 seconds. They must then complete a minimum of 35 sit-ups in under two minutes. The female recruits are then required to complete a one mile run in no more than 10 and a half minutes.

Physical Fitness Test
-
After joining the Marines, soldiers will complete the Physical Fitness Test on a semi-annual basis. The test consists of the Physical Fitness portion as well as a Body Composition Program. Soldiers will be tested in three events. The first consists of pull-ups for men or a flexed arm hang for women. The soldiers must then complete abdominal crunches before embarking on a three-mile run. The test is conducted in one session and must not exceed two hours from start to completion.
