NetZero is an Internet service provider. To actually retrieve and view information from the Internet, however, NetZero subscribers need Web browser software such as Internet Explorer.

Features
-
Any Web browser may be used with your NetZero service. If your Internet Explorer browser is opening whenever you click on an advertisement in NetZero's Companion bar, it means you have Internet Explorer set as your default Web browser.
Prevention
-
To prevent Internet Explorer from opening whenever you click on an advertisement in NetZero's Companion bar, you have to change your default Web browser setting. To change this setting from Internet Explorer to some other browser, you have to have that other browser installed on your computer.

Example
-
Setting a Web browser to a default browser is often accomplished through the browser's "Tools" menu options. If you have a Firefox browser installed on your computer, for example, you could make Firefox your default Web browser instead of Internet Explorer by opening the Firefox "Tools" menu and selecting "Options." Click on the "Advanced" tab. Then, in the "System Defaults" section of the "General" tab that appears, click the "Check Now" button to bring up another prompt. You will be asked if you would like to make Firefox your default Web browser. Click "Yes."
