-
Use Ice Cubes
-
Ice cubes can be reused to save water and avoid being wasteful. If you drop an ice cube on the floor while filling your glass, throw them in a plant instead of the sink. Also place ice cubes in hanging plants versus watering them. This will eliminate water overflow.
Monitor Water Use
-
While you are applying soap to your hands, turn the water off so it is not running while you lather. Also, turn the water off while you are brushing your teeth instead of letting it run the whole time.
-
Check Toilets
-
Check to see if your toilet has a leak. Do this by adding food coloring to the tank and watching for it to seep into the bowl during a flush. If it does, it needs a fix, which can save upwards of 1,000 gallons of water a month. Add a displacement device in the toilet tank if it was installed before 1992. This will reduce the water used during each flush.
