Computer shopping can be a daunting task when you're trying to figure out what type of system you want, what programs you need and whether you want a desktop or laptop. Once you've figured all that out, now comes price comparison shopping. You want to find a seller that has the computer you want at a price you can afford.

  1. Visit Comparison Websites

    • Using the Internet can save you time and money. Websites like goggle and pricegrabber can help you find the computer you want and compare retail prices. Visit the websites, type in the computer you're looking for and then read through the lists the websites generate of stores and prices. Firefox also offers a program called PriceTrace, which can trace items from several retailers.

    View Store Advertisements

    • Newspapers often contain store inserts and advertisements for various electronics stores, listing their computers and which ones are on sale. Compare the various advertisements to find the computer you want and which store is selling it for less.

    Visit Stores

    • Visit local retailers that sell computers and compare prices yourself. National retailers who sell computers include Best Buy, Office Depot and Radio Shack. Discount stores such as Costco, Wal-Mart and Target also sell computers. However, you may not be able to find the same make and model of computer at competing retailers, making comparison shopping difficult.
