Pearl Laser Vs. Pearl Fractional

Pearl is the name given to several different skin-resurfacing laser therapies by Cutera, a company that markets and sells laser medical devices. Cutera offers three different therapies that include the name "Pearl," making it sometimes confusing for consumers. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. The Original Pearl Laser

    • Called simply "Pearl," Cutera's first laser treatment to carry the name is used to even out skin discoloration, help improve fine wrinkles and skin texture. According to the Cutera website, Pearl is minimally invasive, patients experience little discomfort and recovery time is only 3 or 4 days.

    Pearl Fractional

    • While Cutera's website states that Pearl Fractional is gentle and offers a quick recovery like the original Pearl laser, Pearl Fractional is designed to treat deeper wrinkles and more severe photo aging. Pearl Fractional penetrates deeper into the skin than does Pearl, building collagen and smoothing out deeper wrinkles, acne scars and other imperfections. Expect a 5- to 7-day recovery.

    Pearl Fusion

    • Pearl Fusion is a two-step treatment that combines Pearl and Pearl Fractional. In most cases, Pearl is applied to the entire face, then Pearl Fractional is used to target trouble spots. In most cases, only one Pearl Fusion treatment is required, with 5 to 7 days for recovery.
