Solar power is absorbed, not harvested, which eliminates intermediaries. The source of solar power is reliable.

New solar concentrators use lenses and mirrors to focus solar energy, and new solar batteries are using lightweight lithium air technology, according to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A solar-powered home can be free of the power grid. Properly placed windows can also passively absorb solar power to heat the interior.

Location, weather and maintenance impact solar power reliability. Weather and geographic location can affect the reliability of solar power. Clouds, rain and snow can obstruct the collection of solar power. Solar panels must be cleaned and cleared of dirt, snow and other debris to operate at top efficiency, and solar batteries require ongoing maintenance.
