Information on the Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage compact sport utility vehicle debuted in 1995. After going through minor upgrades over the next several years, Kia stopped production of the vehicle following the 2001 model and resumed sales three years later.

  1. Second Generation

    • In 2005, a revamped and improved Kia Sportage hit the market. The second-generation Sportage had little in common with its first-generation predecessor, but because of stiff competition in the compact SUV market, the Sportage remained a middle-of-the-pack offering. A third-generation Sportage debuted for the 2010 model year.

    2011 Sportage Engines

    • The 2011 Kia Sportage is available in three models: the base model, an EX and an LX. Each model features a dual-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine capable of 176 horsepower. The Sportage base model comes with a six-speed manual overdrive transmission, while the EX and LX models come with electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmissions.

    2011 Sportage Fuel Economy

    • EPA-estimated fuel economy for the various 2011 Sportage models ranges from 21 to 22 miles per gallon in city driving and 28 to 31 mpg on the highway. Each of the three versions of the Sportage comes equipped with a 14.5 gallon gas tank.
