Bumps on My Scalp
Scalp bumps can be annoying, itchy or unsightly. A range of factors can contribute to bumps on the scalp, and a variety of over-the-counter solutions often can be effective in removing them.

Hives
-
Hives on the scalp result in small, itchy, red bumps. Scalp hives can be attributed to stress or can form as a reaction to a new shampoo, conditioner or medication. If changing your hair products has no effect on your scalp bumps, book an appointment with your doctor or dermatologist.
Oily Scalp
-
An over-oily scalp can result in scalp acne, clogged pores or hair follicles, dermatitis or sebaceous cysts. The solution often can be as simple as switching to an oil-free or sensitive formula of your preferred hair product. Serious cases of cysts might need medical attention.

Skin Cancer
-
Skin cancer can appear anywhere on the body, including the scalp. If your scalp bumps do not respond to environmental changes or over-the-counter treatment or you have risk factors for skin cancer, discuss your condition with a dermatologist.
Newborns
-
Newborn babies can suffer from scalp bumps, generally attributed to hormones from the mother. According to the Women's Healthcare Topics website, approximately 20 per cent of babies will be affected, usually about three weeks after birth. This condition is temporary and sometimes responds to gentle cleaning without lotions.
