It's never enjoyable to find worms in your home-grown produce.

Modern gardeners increasingly demand the use of natural pesticides that will not harm the environment like pesticides. You can use garlic and pepper spray to kill a variety of garden pests, including cabbage worms and diamond-back moth larvae. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Function

    • Garlic and pepper sprays must be made with oil or dish soap. The garlic and/or red pepper absorb into the skin of the worms through the oil or dish soap. This then kills the worm through suffocation.

    Instructions

    • Capital District Community Gardens recommends missing six cloves of garlic, one tablespoon of dried hot pepper, one teaspoon of dish soap and one gallon of hot water. The mixture needs to sit for at least 24 hours before spraying onto plants, worms or caterpillars.

    Alternatives

    • You may substitute hot pepper sauce for garlic in a worm garden spray, according to Sierra Club Canada. Spray one plant first to see how the plant reacts and then spray all of the plants the next day if the original test plant is doing fine.
