The Capacity of an HP 88XL Ink Cartridge

The Hewlett-Packard (HP) 88XL inkjet printer cartridge offers users a higher output in page capacity than some other cartridges. The XL cartridges are manufactured to work in only certain Hewlett-Packard inkjet printer models and come in black, yellow, cyan and magenta.

  1. Black Cartridges

    • HP 88XL black cartridges have twice the page print yield of regular HP 88 cartridges. The water-based ink prints 2,450 pages, as determined by International Standards Organization (ISO) tests using the HP Officejet Pro K550 color printer.

    Color Cartridges

    • ISO tests on the HP 88XL cyan-color inkjet cartridge produced an average print yield of 1,700 pages. The magenta-ink HP 88XL cartridge produces 1,980 pages, and the yellow-ink cartridge produces 1,540 pages.

    Considerations

    • The type of printing you do impacts the number of pages you can expect to print using a single ink cartridge. If your pages have a higher percentage of print on the page than used in ISO standardized test results, you will get fewer pages per cartridge. The HP 88XL black cartridge costs about twice as much as the HP 88 cartridge, which has a page yield of only 850 pages.
