Construction
-
A homemade pantograph is constructed with four rods connected with joints to form a parallelogram. Four pivots are used in the construction: one fixed, two removable, and one that extends below the rods.
Materials
-
The four rods of wood must be 5/8 inches wide and 19 inches long. The four pivots are built of brass screws and small chunks of hardwood that act as nuts. To produce a cleaner image, a small sliding weight is suggested. The weight attached to the rod near the pencil, keeping the pencil tip in contact with the paper.

Copy Size
-
There are two holes for the pointer and the pencil. Placing the pointer in hole one and the pencil in hole two creates an enlarged image. Placing the pencil in hole one and the pointer in hole two produces a reduced image. If a copy is needed on the same scale as the original image, tracing paper produces a similar result.
