2005 Porsche Carrera S Specs

The 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S is the up-level Carrera model and the first Porsche car designated 997, sporting a significant redesign over 2004 996 Carrera S models. Porsche reverted back to styling cues from classic 911s, including the iconic front bug-eye headlights.

  1. Engine

    • The 911 Carrera S models have an upgraded engine for 2005 over the standard Carrera. The iconic Porsche flat-six, now displacing 3.8 liters, has dual overhead cams, 24 valves and 11.8-to-1 compression ratio. Power output is 355 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 295 lb.-ft. torque at 4,600 rpm.

    Drivetrain

    • Like all 911 models, the Carrera S features the unorthodox rear engine, rear-wheel drive configuration. A six-speed manual transmission is standard with a five-speed automatic with manual shift as an option. One key Carrera S selling point was the automaker's new Porsche Active Suspension Management, a sophisticated system that varies brake pressure, power to each rear wheel and suspension damping to keep the car level and composed, especially in bad weather.

    Performance

    • In "Motor Trend" testing the Carrera S ran 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and the quarter-mile in 13.0 seconds at 109.5 mph. Grip was 0.95 g on the skidpad. EPA estimated fuel economy is 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway.
