Legal Document Preparation Certification
Whether drafting a will, living trust, or deed of trust, you likely will need a legal document preparer to draft the legal documents unless you have legal experience. However, before you can become a legal document preparer, you will have to receive adequate certification.

Continuing Education

Before you can receive certification, you have to undergo a number of continuing education classes. For example, Arizona requires no less than 20 hours of continuing legal education that must be approved by the state. Prices for the continuing education classes can range from $75 to $225 as of September, 2010.
Exam Registration

Once you have completed the necessary continuing legal education courses you will then need to register with the state and submit your application for the certification exam. As part of the registration form you will have to pay a registration fee and state your preference for the date and time of the exam.

Exam

After registering, you can sit for the legal document preparer exam. The exam consists of questions ranging from legal terminology and professional responsibilities to ethical issues. Once you have successfully passed the exam you will be issued your legal document preparer certification.
