Natural Carpet Cleaning Solution

Vinegar and water removes stains trapped within your carpet fibers.

Commercial carpet cleaners contain chemicals, which sometimes have a harsh smell, and traditional soap and water can leave a residue behind. A natural carpet cleaning solution is a combination of vinegar and water that leaves your carpeting clean, and is inexpensive.

Mixture

Combine 2/3 cup water with 1/3 cup distilled white vinegar. A stronger mixture of equal parts water and vinegar may be required for larger or stubborn stains.

Cleaning

Pour a few tablespoons of the mixture onto your stains and lightly blot with a clean towel. Keep using more of the cleaning solution and blotting with a fresh towel. The vinegar and water naturally dissipate, requiring no vacuuming or drying on your part.

Expert Insight

For especially stubborn stains, sprinkle baking soda onto the stain and dribble vinegar on top, until the mixture begins to foam. Once the vinegar dries, vacuum the solution away and the stain should be gone.
