Grant Information for Women Starting a Business
If you are a woman looking to start a business, there are few grants you can count on. Most grants, government or private, are set aside for more specific parties, such as minority women or women with disabilities. Still, there are a few you can apply for if you know the right route to take.

Government Grants
-
The federal government does not offer any grants for women in business. They do, however, offer grants for specific subsets of women. Certain states may offer grants based on gender, so check with your state if you are thinking of opening a business. Business.gov is a good resource to use when looking for state grants.
Private Grants
-
There are dozens of private grants available for women looking to open a business. Check your local library or go to the Women Grants and Scholarships website to find more information on specific grants that could be helpful to you.

Applying for Grants
-
Before trying to get a grant, be sure you qualify for it. If you don't exactly meet the specifications, you'll likely be overlooked. As you're applying, continually spell- and grammar-check your work. Look for content errors as well. A grant application needs to be devoid of errors. Read all instructions on the grant application and follow them to the letter, so a silly mistake doesn't disqualify you.
