The Army's Class A service uniform is required wear for all soldiers in the service. This uniform is comprised of certain components that must be worn in accordance with Army regulations.

  1. Identification

    • Army Regulation 670-1 governs the wear of the Army Class A service uniform. This regulation, entitled "Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia," dictates how Army personnel must wear all uniforms.

    Function

    • The Army's Class A service uniform is designed for everyday wear, although it can also be worn during ceremonies or formal parties. Soldiers may wear the uniform on or off duty or while traveling.

    Features

    • Two types of Class A service uniforms exist -- green and blue. The green service uniform consists of a green coat and slacks, a green shirt, a black necktie, a beret and black dress shoes. Females can wear a green skirt instead of slacks. The blue uniform, meanwhile, consists of a dark blue coat, either dark or light blue slacks, a white collared shirt, a black necktie, a beret and black shoes. Females can also wear a dark or light blue skirt with the Class A blue combination.

    Time Frame

    • As of September 2010, soldiers are still allowed to wear either the blue or green Class A uniforms. Starting in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2014, however, the blue uniform will be the only available option and the green combination will no longer be allowed.
