How to Compare Compaq and Toshiba Notebook Computers
When comparing Compaq or Toshiba laptops, keep in mind the reason and purpose for the notebook computer. Different designs are geared towards specific markets, such as general use, business and gaming. Compaq was purchased by HP in 2002, so there are very few Compaq laptop models to choose from.

Size
-
Size, weight and durability will be key factors. Measurements to consider when comparing Compaq and Toshiba notebooks are the diagonal screen measurement, the depth and the weight.
Processors and Memory
-
AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) and Intel are the most common processor brands. The remaining Compaq models use AMD processors. Toshiba (and HP) laptops offer both Intel and AMD processors, depending on the model. As with any computer, a faster processor gives quicker load times, and more RAM (Random Access Memory) enables multiple applications to run simultaneously and more smoothly.

Graphics, Personalization and Display
-
A better graphics card will produce a better and faster image. Displays are either LED (Light Emitting Diode) or LCD (Liquid Crystal Display); both produce a sharp image. Personalization generally does not improve the actual notebook, but enhances aesthetics.
Drives
-
Hard disk drive capacity is often given in gigabytes (GB), with the access speed in RPM. Most notebook users require less storage than those working in graphics-based environments or with multimedia-heavy requirements. Both Toshiba and Compaq's notebooks come with DVD writers and can be upgraded to a Blu-ray ROM.
Networking, Power and Bundled Software
-
An internal wireless network card allows you to connect Compaq and Toshiba laptops to the Internet through an Internet service provider (ISP). A wireless card with Bluetooth enables more than one application to use the device at the same time. Both Toshiba and the Compaq notebooks come with 6-cell lithium ion batteries. Compaq offers an optional "secondary battery", including a 9-cell extended-life battery.
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit is the standard Operating System (OS) for Compaq and Toshiba laptops.
Warranty and Protection Packages
-
Toshiba has a one-year standard limited warranty and can be upgraded to a two- or three-year package, with the option of extended service plans. Compaq offers seven different HP Total Care optional packages.
