International Corporate Structure

Corporate structures dictate how operations will be separated in the company. Corporate structure is especially important for larger organizations and publicly held companies, especially those with international business locations.

  1. Separation of Duties

    • International corporate structures, also called multinational enterprises, are similar to domestic corporate structures; owners, boards of directors and executive managers have the main responsibilities, with other levels of management responsible for specific divisions or locations.

    Features

    • International corporate structure frequently uses personnel from the local environment to run operations. Although executive management may be from the company's home office, lower team members frequently comprise individuals from the foreign country.

    Considerations

    • Large organizations can face disadvantages from an international corporate structure. Divisions may compete against each other in a manner that decreases the company's opportunity to complete goals and objectives. The number of products in the company may also be an issue if the international division does not operate as well as domestic divisions.
